True story: a coworker called to complain that the mic on her headset had died. The earpiece worked fine but the boom mic didn’t.. This was her 4th headset in just a year. Why the headsets kept failing was quite the mystery.
The headset was an important accommodation and useful in the performance of her duties. So, without judgment and no investigation, I replaced the headset and moved on.
Later that day, I happened to be passing by her cubicle and was just in time to observe as she raised a full 32oz cup of soft drink… with the boom mic disappearing into the cup.
Can you hear me now glug-glug-glug? Mystery solved.
These are all great stories! And though people are no smarter now than they were back then, at least the replacement parts are much less expensive for many of the items (keyboards, etc)
