My resignation as President of KansasFest was effective July 31, 2025 which coincidentally also happened to be my 59th birthday.

The decision to step down was bittersweet and long overdue. My feelings toward KansasFest have changed significantly over the past few years. While I still looked forward to attending and hanging out with my friends, old and new, I now felt a sense of dread and malaise when it came to the increasingly complicated business, social and political details of organizing the event. To summarize, my involvement in planning and organizing KansasFest just wasn’t fun anymore. So it was time to make room for new leadership with the energy and devotion I had lost. It was completely my choice. No one forced me out.

It was a privilege to serve on the committee in one role or another for… well, now that I think about it, over two decades. Time certainly flies. During my tenure with KansasFest, we saved the event from near-certain demise (at least three times), became a corporation (that could finally pay it’s bills on time) and then transitioned to a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. We increased attendance, acquired batches of donated equipment and media for redistribution and archiving via the Garage Giveaway plus many other side projects that benefitted our community. The KansasFest Board and members of the committee (past and present) worked very hard to make the changes necessary to ensure KansasFest’s long-term viability.

I hope KansasFest continues to thrive and succeed. I wish Peter Neubauer, the new President, and his team of dedicated volunteers all the best as they guide KansasFest into the future. I also wish peace and prosperity to the Apple II user community, who are the heart and soul of KansasFest. Without the community, KansasFest could not exist.

I would also like to thank the KansasFest Committee for the 2025 Apple II Forever Award. I’m not entirely sure I deserve it, but it was a pleasant surprise to receive it.
